crock-pot applesauce is a fall favorite for baby & family :: a real food recipe

Fall is in the air here in Michigan, which means the local farmers market is flooded with juicy apples. I don’t know about you, but they call to me. Just BEGGING me to take them home!

1Recently, I helped host a baby shower for one of my dear friends. The theme? The Apple of My Eye. I know! Cute right!?! But when the shower was all said and done, I was left with almost a half bushel of apples. If you can’t picture a half bushel… just take a peek at this photo. Yep! Tons!!

Thankfully one of my friends knew that I was on a baby-food-making journey and suggested I make some applesauce with them for my little man. If I had known how easy it was to make applesauce in a crock-pot, I would have done this ages ago!

I simply peeled the apples. My mother-in-law claims that you don’t even have to do this because the skins cook off, but because I was wanting to avoid cooking in the pesticides (I’m a little protective of my son… I know!) I peeled the skins off.

Then I cut them into slices. Threw them in the crock-pot and VOILA! Applesauce!

 Crock Pot Applesauce:

  1. Peel apples (or don’t… this is your choice)
  2. Cut them into slices
  3. Throw them into the crock pot
  4. This step is optional: Add cinnamon (because this was for baby food, I skipped this step… though I would love it for ME!)
  5. Cook on High for 2 hours or on Low for 3 hours
  6. When it’s done, it should look like applesauce. I have not even needed to puree it to get the chunks out! And I am NOT a chunk person! Haha…
