Our first stop in Lancaster County was Aaron and Jessica’s Buggy Rides where we took a buggy ride that included a tour of a local Amish farm. This was by far the best way to really see Amish Country. Our driver was amazing. He was a wealth of information and answered all of our questions. He pointed out different farms, the one-room schoolhouse, and talked about different crop fields on the way to the farm.
Once at the farm he showed us the animals, the milking barn and how the family works together to keep their farm running smoothly (including milking and barn chores starting at 5am even for the children–my kids sure have it easy!). We watched the children playing a game of croquet (my kids had never played and really wanted to learn!) and then bought cookies and lemonade from their stand. *Out of respect for Amish beliefs, my pictures do not include any people.
Our whole family was so glad we took the buggy ride. I highly recommend this for really learning about the people and culture in Amish Country. If you’re heading to Philadelphia or Hershey, I highly recommend taking a day trip out to Lancaster County and stopping by Aaron and Jessica’s Buggy Rides. It was by far one of the highlights of our trip and I’m hoping we can get back there again someday!
