Raise your hand if you are a fan of all things American Girl? We sure are over here! Having a house full of girls who are obsessed with all things American Girl, one of the most exciting things they stay in touch with at the end of the year is WHO will be announced as the Girl of the Year. And, if you haven’t seen yet, they released their Girl of the Year for 2018, and she’s out of this world! Keep reading, you will love my play on words there 🙂
On Jan. 1, American Girl is introducing Luciana Vega, the 2018 Girl of the Year. She comes with an out-of-this-world storyline about an 11-year-old who dreams of being the first person on Mars. American Girl worked with NASA, including a task force of advisors (scientists, astronauts, and more below) who helped ensure the accuracy and authenticity of Luciana’s world—from her story and products to a STEM-based educational program in partnership with Scholastic and Space Camp.
What a FUN option for this year! I love how the creativity comes out of my kids when they learn and read about things surrounding the American Girl line. One year the Girl of the Year was a dancer, one year it was a gymnast, one year it was an adventurer…and this year it’s an aspiring astronaut! So unique, and so educational!
Looking beyond her cool line of space-inspired products (like a Mars habitat and flight suit!), American Girl’s purpose behind this character is what’s most important. Luciana shows what it can mean to be a girl of strong character today, where creative thinking, collaboration, and STEM literacy provide opportunities for meaningful growth and development. Technology continues to revolutionize what we do and what we know, and Luciana is a character that can bring visibility and valuable lessons to girls at a time in their lives when they’re learning about their infinite potential to change the world.
The American Girl brand stands for so much more than just….dolls. They have come so far over the years and I’m just thrilled that my girls still love playing with their dolls and all that it comes with. For example:
Imaginative play is covered…
Does your little one like to match her dolls? Check that off the list, they can match!
Add reading to the list too!
I just couldn’t be happier with the choice of Luciana for the Girl of the Year! What excites YOU about this years’ doll character?
