Dino Dan’s newest DVD, Tyrannosaurus Trek, has been a welcome addition to our ever-growing collection. Tyrannosaurus Trek is a 5-episode disc that runs for about 60 minutes. In these episodes Dan’s younger brother, Trek, discovers that he can see dinosaurs just like Dan can! Dan is out-of-town and sends a package to Trek with everything he’ll need to do some dino tracking. In another episode, Trek learns all about dino senses and uses them to help complete his class scavenger hunt. My kids love scavenger hunts, so this episode is the one we’ve watched the most.
The thing I love most about the Dino Dan series is that my children really identify with the characters and it’s not uncommon to hear them pretending to be Dan and Trek. We’ve had glorious weather for most of the past few weeks and this weekend I walked outside to discover that my oldest two children had drawn a line of dinosaurs from my front door all the way across the driveway! And they could tell you the name of each dino (which I assume was correct because I know very few dinosaur names) and a little something about each one. So not only are Dino Dan and Trek encouraging creative play, but my children are also learning a lot about how dinosaurs lived and thrived.
