A couple years ago I had a friend make me a shirt that said “‘Rawrrr!’ means ‘I Love You!’ in Dinosaur and Little Boy” because as any momma to a little boy can attest, some days your “I love you!” is replied to with a resounding “Rawrrr!”
After a couple weeks of my 3-year-old son once again showing a focused interest in actually listening to us read him books I decided that it was time to pull out Dinosaur Devotions: 75 Dino Discoveries, Bible Truths, Fun Facts, and More! from author Michelle Medlock Adams. You see, while the wonderful illustrations from Denise Turu will hold his engagement the content of Dinosaur Devotions is perfectly aimed at his 8 and 11 year old sisters who were dinosaur fanatics well before there was a little brother to help entertain (recommended ages are 6-12 years).
It feels like a win all around when I have the older kids read Dinosaur Devotions to their little brother. Not only do the big kids enjoy the time teaching the little one about dinosaurs, they are reading insights and learning from the lessons extras of each devotional that is perfectly geared for my bigger kids.
Even more fun are all the names given to the fun extras for each devotional entry such as Bible Excavation, Dino Stats, Digging Deeper, Jurassic Journaling, and Dino Dictionary. Each page also has a cute illustration of the featured dinosaur, its name, and because if you’re not a paleontologist dinosaur names are SUPER difficult there is also the phonetic spelling for each dinosaur name.
If you’re looking for a great devotional to get your dinosaur loving kids interested in the Bible I highly suggest Dinosaur Devotions, it is another great book from our friends at Tommy Nelson!
