As many of you are experiencing school closures state wide my family is experiencing it as well. In in state of South Carolina our state governor has canceled school through the end of April. However, at the end of the month I expect for him to cancel it for the remainder of the school year. Either way I have prepared for the long haul, and have redesigned my craft room to accommodate my three children. Each of my children have their own work area for distance learning, and access to all of their necessities to learn. My husband recently brought home several old filing cabinets that someone was tossing out, and I used two of the smaller ones to create a work space for my younger children to share. I had an old countertop in my garage that was collecting dust and placed it on top of the two filing cabinets.
As for my eldest daughter I thought she needed a space all to herself, and cleaned up an old wicker desk for her. They are also on opposite sides of the room so that my first and fourth graders do not bother my high schooler. Never thought I would be homeschooling again, but at least I can say that I was prepared because we homeschooled for three years.
I placed my daughter’s desk in front of mine so that I can easily help her while I work from home. My work area was already arranged how I wanted it, but needed to reorganize my area. Now I can honestly say I am ready for Monday to begin distance learning after spending two weeks at my dinning room table.
For the rest of our classroom I stacked two baby mattress on top of a pallet to make a couch that we plan to us as a reading nook. I then hung the springs from the baby bed as a cute organizer to hang my craft projects on. Next to the makeshift couch we have a dress-up area with craft aprons hanging above the dress-up clothes.
Of all things I have a sink on my third floor, but it works perfectly for our distance learning classroom, and it allows me to have more storage for all of my craft supplies. I have worked very hard to make this transformation to make this transition easier for my children.
What do you think of our Distance Learning Classroom?
