diy detox bath salts

detoxsaltsfeatureDo any of you love to relax after a long day with a good soak in the tub? I don’t make time for this nearly enough, but every time I do, I feel better and sleep better. Lately I’ve been using these DIY bath salts every time I take a bath. The heat of the bath water plus the ingredients in the salts helps your body to naturally draw out toxins, leaving you cleaner inside and out!

This is my basic recipe: Mix 1 cup each epsom salts, sea salt and aluminum-free baking soda. Add 1 tablespoon ground ginger and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (I use Young Living’s Peace and Calming–some other favorites are peppermint or lavender). Mix it all up and keep in a container ready to add to your bath.

Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the bath salts and soak as long as is comfortable. I like to try to soak at least half an hour, though sometimes that isn’t possible. Make sure you are drinking as you soak so you can rehydrate your body as you detox! I like to take a cool shower after my soak to bring my core temperature down a bit.

If I am too busy (or the weather is too hot) for a full bath, I sometimes use this same recipe for a detox foot soak. While I’m working on the computer, I’ll fill a container with hot water and some bath salts and soak my feet as long as I can.

I think this sounds so relaxing and well, almost comforting. A nice, long soak in this sounds like just the ticket after a long day. Thanks for the DIY recipe, I know it will save lots of money!

I will have to give this a try…. thank you! BTW….. what does the ginger do? I know what all the other ingredients do except for the ginger.

Great question! Ginger helps to increase circulation and open pores so your body can release more toxins. The salts still work great without it, so if you don’t have it on hand, you can leave it out. But if you happen to have some, it just gives it a bit of a boost!
