As a country girl I have always loved Mason Jars! I use them to decorate the inside of my home, to drink out of and to decorate my front door. A dear friend of mine recently bought their first home and I wanted to do something special for them. I decided to make them a door hanger to brighten their front door. She is a country girl like myself so I thought she would love one of my Mason Jar Door Hangers!
Materials:
- Acrylic Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Water Jar
- Jig Saw
- 1/4″ Plywood
- Sandpaper
- Wire for hanging
- Drill {bit depends on size of wire}
- Pencil {to sketch out mason jar}
- Burlap Ribbon
Step 1: The jar shape is fairly easy to draw, and it is okay if your jar is not perfectly symmetrical mine is approximately 20″ x 13″ . Draw your jar shape on your 1/4″ plywood in pencil and cut it out using your Jig Saw. Before you begin painting drill two holes at the top of your jar about two inches apart for hanging.
Step 2: Before you begin painting make sure to sand your plywood down to get rid of all the rough edges. Then use your plywood as your paint palette. I just squeeze the paint out and blend it together to get the color I want. I also like to see the variations of yellow from not blending your paint before you paint. For this door hanger I wanted a pale yellow for the jar.
Step 3: Once your Mason Jar is painted you can begin embellishing it. I began by painting the family’s name on the Mason Jar with the year they were married.
Step 4: Next I added lightening bugs with an extra glow of yellow to make them stand out.
Step 5: The last details I added were the accent lines for the jar, and the I finished off with the jar lid. I painted the lid the same way I painted my jar by mixing the paint as I painted so that you can see a variety of grays. Then I added the accent lines for the jar. Lastly, I drilled my holes for the wire and embellished with a Burlap bow.
Would you hang this Mason Jar on your front door?
