I always make gifts for my children’s teachers every Christmas. When you have three kids and a dozen teachers to buy gifts for it gets a bit expensive. My eldest child has learned that buying gifts makes a good impression on her teachers {brown nosing}. I’m all for it if it helps her out at the end of the school year. I found a fallen branch in the yard about the right thickness for the wood slice ornaments I’ve been wanting to make. Unfortunately, when I cut into it some little buggers had made a home, but I have instructions on how to take care of those. My Miter Saw is due for a new blade, but I haven’t wanted to bother my husband to help me change it so I only made a few ornaments.
Materials::
- Miter Saw
- Tree branch
- Acrylic paint
- Ribbon
- Eye Hooks
- Paintbrushes
- Glitter paint
- Drill and bit to fit your Eye Hooks
STEP 1:: First you need to find a tree branch the thickness that you want your ornaments to be. Mine are roughly three inches. Once you find your branch use your Miter Saw to slice your branch into 1/2″ slices. Place the wood slices in your oven on 275 degrees for a few hours to make sure all the bugs are gone.
STEP 2:: Next I went ahead and secured my Eye Hook using a drill. I drilled a hole into the top of my ornament and secured the Eye Hooks.
STEP 3:: Now paint the center of your ornament. I chose white and left a boarder around my center to see the detail of the wood.
STEP 4:: Once your center dries you can paint an initial using whatever color you choose. Then when it dries you can add a coat of glitter to your ornament to make it shimmer. These ornaments are great for diffusing essential oils on the wood.
STEP 5:: Finally you can add your ribbon and hang it on your Christmas tree.
Would you hang these Wood Slice Ornaments on your Christmas tree?
