Sleep. We all need it! And goodness, some days it’s darn hard to fall asleep after an exhausting day. Am I right? I mean…shouldn’t we just drift away into a slumbered bliss after the craziness had ensued through the day? Like a rock, to the bottom of the ocean. Right? Ack – so crazy when we can’t. And frustrating!!
Or how about when you do actually fall asleep and then wake up. Randomly. Then, you can’t fall back asleep. Again, horrible, frustrating and crazy too! What can we do about that? Well, for starters, I want you to know, you aren’t alone!
Lack of sleep or a full night’s successful sleep is a widespread issue that Americans are facing these days. Did you know that 4 million Americans suffer with this issue? Whether it’s difficulty falling asleep or the inability to STAY asleep for the whole night. Again, you are not alone!!
I know that for me when I don’t get the necessary sleep, I am SO off the next day. It even goes further than that. I have started getting headaches, my parenting is off, my depressions sets in…and the list goes on and on. I am always working on making sure I get enough sleep, but gosh…it’s hard! Life is so busy and so full. I am a stay at home mom, so my job never ends. I go to sleep thinking of my lists and wake up with the lists in my head. Ahhh!! Stop the insanity. Ha Ha!!
Good news all around, there are things we can tweak in our daily life. Daily habits we can change and even treatment options. Have you ever talked to your doctor about it? Sometimes things that seem so overwhelming have a simple resolution. Your doctor could have a conversation with you to talk about your routine, lifestyle and other symptoms. Who know, they might have the perfect answer! What have you found that has worked for you?
Once we get past the falling asleep, and then staying asleep, doesn’t it just feel heavenly. You wake up with a new spirit about you. At least, I sure do. There are SO many benefits to a good night’s sleep. We are healthier because our immune system has had the rest it needs. Our memory and other important daily things are function better…because we are working on all cylinders. It’s crazy how “off” I feel when I don’t get the necessary amount of sleep!
I’d love to hear your tips and tricks to getting a good night’s sleep. Let’s discuss below! Help a sister out!!

August 4, 2015 at 3:19 pmI totally struggle with sleep. Some nights are easy, but most are difficult. I even wear earplugs and sometimes sleep with pillows on my ears and STILL wake to any noise.

July 23, 2015 at 4:21 pmWhat keeps me up at night is “the list” that endless list of things to do, buy, remember, etc for the next few days. I know i don’t get enough sleep.

July 24, 2015 at 10:44 amMe too!! I started putting a pad of paper by my bed. So yes, I have to get up to write things down, BUT I’ve found when it’s out of my head, I do fall asleep faster. Might be worth a shot for you too!

July 23, 2015 at 2:38 pmI find that if I have caffeine too late in the afternoon, I will have trouble sleeping. I have a few items that I can take that are natural and safe, but I prefer just a cup of pure peppermint tea to relax me. That can really help me sleep at night.

July 24, 2015 at 10:43 amI’ve never heard peppermint tea before – very cool! And yes on the caffeine. I question when I take it in and then it’s too late when I can’t sleep. I hear ya!!

July 23, 2015 at 10:04 amI have to make sure my bedroom is not too hot or cold. Temperature is so important for good sleep. I also am sensitive to noise so I wear ear plugs. I only drink caffiene early in the morning. I exercise to get me tired for a good night’s sleep. And I make sure to keep my room dark. I have dark curtains to help me sleep. But I will not take sleeping pills.
