When preparing to send your firstborn away to college it is imperative to plan. I searched for the perfect dorm bedding that included most of the bedding necessities. I found the perfect solution from Amazon with their OCM Comfort Dorm Essentials Value Pack – 19 Piece Twin XL Set it came with 2 sets of twin XL sheets, a comforter, a topper, 2 sets of towels, wash clothes, hand towels, 2 pillows, a blanket, and a laundry bag. Once I found the bedding all we needed to do was add accessories, and decorations and then arrange the furniture.
When I took my daughter to orientation for a night I made sure to measure all the furniture and the room to get a better idea of how to arrange the furniture. I also had another mom suggest where to place the bed because her daughter went to the same college and thought it gave the room more space.
That only left me with where I would put the desk because I didn’t plan on moving the armoire. As you can see the chest of drawers, refrigerator, and bookcase went under the bed perfectly. We raised the bed just high enough to accommodate these three pieces of furniture. Although you cannot see it in this picture there is enough room in the bookcase for six full-sized towels.
Another necessity for dorm rooms would-be organizers. I purchased a set of 3 foldable StorageWorks Storage Baskets that fit perfectly on the bookcase shelves. We also picked up several gray plastic containers to put on the top shelf of her armoire and a Sterilite 3-drawer Wide Weave Tower to put in there as well. We also used the organizers for her desk as well.
We found the rug and pillows at TJ Maxx to give her room a more finished look. Then the extra lighting to help control the brightness of the room and be able to see to get in and out of bed at night. All of the artwork is originals from Uniquely Yours by Shay.
The only thing we had to purchase once everything was set up was a couple of fans to help control the temperature better. One was placed on top of the armoire and the other was a clamp light to clamp on her bed. Everything worked out perfectly as you can tell.
