easy peasy thumbprint cookies with @welch’s jelly {#PB&JYourWay}

My mother has been making thumbprint cookies for years now…I remember eating them when I was a child!  Now that I have kids of my own, I love to make those little memories in the kitchen with THEM making cookies.  I HAVE to share this recipe with you guys because of three reasons:

  1. they take 4-5 ingredients, boo-yah!!
  2. they are easy enough to make with the littles
  3. they don’t take a ton of time and they are easy!!

When we don’t use homemade (out of season, etc.), our only choice has always been Welch’s.  And I’m not just saying that because I am sharing this post with you.  Seriously. 🙂

Easy Peasy Thumbprint Jam Cookies

1 c. butter (soft)
1/2 c sugar
1/2 tsp almond extract (OPTIONAL)
2 c. flour
jar of your favorite welch’s jam
YIELDS 2 dozen cookiesFingerprint Cookies Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.  While the oven is preheating, mix the butter, sugar and almond extract together until creamy in a mixing bowl.Welch's Fingerprint Cookies Creamed Ingredients

Add the flour and mix with the cream mixture.  The dough will no longer be creamy but more of a crumble.Welch's Fingerprint Cookies Crumbled

You can get more particular, but I grab a large tablespoon and load it about 3/4 of the way with dough.  From there we shape them in to balls and put the balls on a Silpat, on our cookies sheet (or regular cookie sheet, not greased too).  Once you have the cookies on the cookie sheet, put a thumbprint in the middle of the dough balls and then fill them with your jam.

Bake for 15 minutes.  Let them cool….and ENJOY!!Easy Fingerprint Cookies

Welch’s, for our family, is a non negotiable. We have been using this spread for-evah.  I remember using it when I was a child and now still use it now that I have children of my own.  Here is some information about Welch’s Jelly ::

  • Welch’s Strawberry Spreads are made with sweet, vine ripened strawberries
  • Welch’s Concord Grape Jelly and Natural Grape Spread are made with Welch’s very own Concord grapes grown in the US and Canada
  • Welch’s Natural Spreads contain no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors or colors, and no preservatives

Outside of the fun cookies posted above, I have many, MANY more uses for jelly!!

  • put jelly in with meatballs in a crockpot
  • use it as a glaze for turkey, chicken and beef in a crock pot or in a baking pan
  • make homemade fruit roll ups by using a dehydrator
  • make homemade pop tarts
  • make cream cheese and jelly sandwich (sounds disgusting but don’t judge until you try it LOL!)
  • add it to ice cream.
  • use it as a spread on pancakes or waffles
  • put it on bagels, toast and english muffins.
  • and the obvious….peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  we spice it up and make our sandwiches in to shapes 🙂

One of the best things about using jelly, while it can be messy, it’s something that my little ones can easily use with a non-sharp knife and feel included in the kitchen.  Plus, it’s totally a yummy addition to many things!
