When looking at suggestions on what to do for your family to prepare for any disaster or emergency you will notice that the standard recommendations include a 3 day supply of food.
When my family first started looking to store this amount of food we went grocery shopping at our favorite big box store. Keeping enough non-perishable food on hand to feed your family for breakfast, lunch & dinner for 3 days can take up a LOT of space.
After throwing out a bunch of food because it had expired (kinda like just flushing cash down the toilet) we decided to look emergency food supplies.
There are a lot of options for emergency food supplies, but the best ones we found were freeze dried and dehydrated. These have longer shelf lives (up to 25 years!) and take up minimal space without having to be constantly rotated.
Emergency Go Bags carries some great options from Wise Foods. We tried out their Savory Stroganoff and Chicken Alfredo pouches. The Stroganoff was a BIG hit with my family, so much so that even the 4-year-old gobbled hers up!
If you’re looking to try some of these options and are a little hesitant about where to start I’d suggest trying one of their Cook In The Pouch – 72 Hour Meal Kits. This is a great way to sample a wide variety of their food options without having to make a large financial decision.
You may have remembered Emergency Go Bags from earlier this summer when I shared their Guardian Elite 2 Person Survival Kit (original post here). If you want to start out on a smaller scale with an emergency kit bag check out their Survival Pal Kit.
The Survival Pal Kit is compact and neatly packed into a durable waterproof cooler. Perfect for keeping in your car or at the office. Among the gear included is 36-piece first aid kit as well as water and food supplies.
Cook in the Pouch – Emergency 72 Hour Meal Kit :: $39.95
Survival Pal Kit :: $34.97
