There’s nothing quite like finding yourself in the car, at 6:30 PM with a child who is about to take a nap. I’ve learned that naps cannot happen at 6:30 PM for ANY length of time. Even a 5 minute snooze will result in my craziest of children running around until 11 PM with an excess of energy.
When this starts to happen I’ve learned to turn on my girls’ favorite app and am guaranteed awake kids for whatever remainder of a car trip we have. This magic app? Endless Alphabet from Callaway Digital Arts, it truly is amazing!
The way the app works is that there are different words for each letter of the alphabet. For example :: Kazoo for the letter K, or Recycle for the letter R, etc.
After selecting a word to play, the word is displayed on the screen. The app then says the word and is promptly run over by little kid-friendly monsters who scatter the letters for the word across the screen.
Kids then select each letter and drag it to the correct “space” on the screen to put the word puzzle back together. While being dragged, each letter turns into a monster as it repeatedly says the phonetic sound for itself.
After all the letters are put back in place there is cheering and then the word is repeated, after which an illustrated monster comes on to show a visual definition of the word.
This whole process is completed when the word’s definition is said aloud in kid-friendly terms. For example, an X-Ray is “a picture that a doctor takes that can see through your skin.”
Have you noticed how much learning is going on here? Fine motor skills, phonetics, puzzles, spelling, definitions, and practical examples that are all kid-friendly with the cutest little monsters you’ve ever seen!
The best part though, is that the app is constantly adding new words to the list! When I first added the Endless Alphabet there was 1 word for each letter, now there are 2 words for each letter and I know they will keep adding more words. The app that keeps on giving!
Endless Alphabet :: FREE! but it is $0.99 to remove ads from in the app permanently (well worth the buck in my opinion!)
