My family loves to play board games. This Family Scavenger Hunt In a Box game from Outset Media is no exception! Not only was it a fun game that everyone could play, it got us up and moving! We played boys against girls (GIRLS WON!) and everyone was rushing around the house grabbing things. Even our 2 year old was able to help.
You start by flicking the spinner to find out how many cards to draw. There are four sets of cards: indoor items for kids, inside items for adults, outside items for kids, outside items for adults. The kid cards have words and pictures. The adult cards have a little more difficult or specific items to find (like a penny made before 1970) and no picture. Draw your cards and GO! Our strategy was to divide up the cards as to which room the items were in and then one person went to that room to get all of those things. I’m not sure the boys had a strategy!
We did quickly discover that you could end up with a BIG mess if you weren’t careful. People rushing everywhere and then piling things on the floor. After the first round we instated a ‘clean up’ rule: At the end of each round, you have to put up the things you brought in before starting the next round. We actually decided that was a good lesson teacher, too. If you get something out, put it away when you’re done with it. Bonus teachinging moment!
The weather is nice this morning and the kids have asked if we could play outside. It’s on!
