The combination of open water and kids gives me the hives. Not really, but kind of. I did not grow up a strong swimmer.  Water has always kind of freaked me out a little bit.  Here is the kicker though, our family LOVES the beach, we love the pool…we love everything water!  So staying away from water, even though it terrifies me, is a non-negotiable.  Taking all that in to account, I have done as many preventative measures as possible when it comes to water safety and my girls.  For starters, we have enrolled our kids in swim lessons very early.  They have always been comfortable and not afraid of the water.  Good, and bad.  While the fear isn’t very great of water, they don’t realize the capacity to which it could harm them.  Being the mom that I am, I share my concerns BUT love to put matters in their hands {a little}.  That’s the point of this post today.

Stearns Puddle Jumpers.  Have you heard of them?  How about this….

Stearns Puddle Jumpers

Now do you recognize them?  Long before I was approached to tell you all about Stearns Puddle Jumpers, I was a firm believer.  I have purchased a couple of these in the past and will always have 2-3 on hand.  I have NOT found a better “swimmie”, “flotation device”, “life jacket”….whatever you want to call it, on the market.  Here is why I think the Stearns is so special {and superior!} ::

  • easy, secure fit
  • holds the head above water
  • easy on, easy off
  • give the child reassurance in the water, but still protecting them
  • allows the child to swim on their own, while still
  • The device is US Coast Guard-approved
  • It fits a large range, giving the child ample time to learn to swim on their own.  Ranges from 30-50 lbs.

stearns puddle jumpers bothHonestly, if your family is like mine and loves to be outside, you need to have one of these for each of your children that can’t swim.  It give you a sense of security like no other! And major bonus…your kids will love it more too!

stearns puddle jumpers :: you can pick these up at Target and Walmart!

It looks simple and fun for kids. When my Son was little, all that was available were the arm floats to help teach them to swim or a lifejacket, most having that head float device that actually pushes the head into the water. This would be great for my great nieces and great nephew. Looks safer.

These look SO much more sturdy than the old blow up ones. We bought a house with a pool last fall and this will be our first summer with one. Although it’s fenced and alarmed AND we have my 2 year old in swim lessons, I want something JUST like this to help add yet one more layer of protection for him. The statistics about kids who drown in backyard pools is frightening! And we all need to do EVERYTHING we can do to protect our munchkins.
