Techy nerd alert coming! Get ready for it….and, go!!
We all have been hearing the term “connected home” for about the last year or so. That being said, I have a few items that you’ll want to get your hands on if this terminology has peeked your interest. Best Buy hooked it up again! The Netgear Nighthark DST AC1900 Wireless-AC Gigabit Router with DST Adapter AND the Netgear Arlo Smart Home Wireless High-Definifition Security Cameras are a winning combination. For those of you (like me) that understood very little from the last sentence, let me break it down…
Netgear Nighthawk DST AC1900 Wireless-AC Gigabit Router with DST Adapter – In simple terms it’s the most dependable router we have ever used as a family. We live in a house with MANY dead spots even with our Apple Time Capsule. I am on one end of the house and the Time Capsule is on the other. My internet signal is rarely reliable. The Netgear Nighthawk is a game changer. DST stands for “Dead Spot Terminator”, and I couldn’t agree more. The product also came with a separate adapter if we needed to increase our wireless strength in a certain area, but at this point everything runs through the main router and it works flawlessly.
Now, on to the next cool thing! The newest item we have added is the our new security cameras.
The Netgear Arlo Smart Home Indoor/Outdoor Wireless High-Definition Security Cameras were certainly a pleasant surprise. We have used a handful of different “wireless” cameras over the last few years since we have 4 kids running around this place, but none of them were truly wireless and NONE of them were able to be used outdoors. The Arlo system was a cinch to set up and runs dependably on our Nighthawk Wireless that already in place. Hubs did most of this, I’ll be honest.
I’m aware that many people use a camera in a nursery or a play room, but have you thought about having one out the front of you house to monitor the driveway while the kids are playing or one out the back of the house so you can finish up those dishes but still keep a close eye on your kids? These go above and beyond with the ability to utilize motion detection and alerts if you like to us them as a device to monitor for security as well. Since we have 4 kids we have found the Arlo system to be one of the top wireless camera systems we have ever used in our home. Maybe some day we’ll use them more for security but for now we just appreciate a simple system that allows us to have eyes in many different places.
And…there’s an app for that. Keep that in mind when looking at security cameras!
So, whatcha think? Was this all a little much for you? I must say, we are VERY happy we have it and now can’t imagine NOT having it. Especially our front door view… 🙂

November 16, 2015 at 1:17 pmWe moved into a new home last year, and although it’s a safe neighborhood, there have still been break-ins. I think having security cameras would make me feel much better! Plus, when someone is knocking at the door, I can’t tell who it is without opening it. (There’s no peep hole for some reason.) Having a camera would just give me that added sense of security.

November 19, 2015 at 8:47 pmWe don’t have one either, a peep hole that is. Isn’t that strange? I’ve looked up getting one though. BUT…I do love the camera aspect. And especially since it’s mobile too. So easy!
