How many of you travel for the holidays? Whether it be long distance or just a short trip to Grandmas? What are your must-haves to travel with your kids to make it easier in the car?
I know that my kids do NOT last very long in the car while traveling. It is up to me to figure out what they will be doing while on our travels. Do you have a system and things in place for your kids to travel?
My top 5 must haves to make holiday travel easier with kiddos:
- Snacks – a healthy snack that doesn’t make too much of a mess. Puffs are good for any age my friends. My 6 year old still loves them. I also recommend a homemade granola bar. Those are full of energy and nutritious. I also like to keep string cheese and veges cut up handy. You also can’t forget plenty of water.
- TV – If you are lucky enough to have TVs in your vehicle those would be great to keep kids entertained. I will be purchasing one for our February trip to Florida for the kids. There is one you can use your iPhone with and watch Netflix….yeah that’s pretty sweet!
- Games/Toys – Whether you have older kids or younger kids you can always play iSpy…I remember as a child playing this game and I loved it. We traveled a lot when we were younger so we had to find things to keep ourselves amused. I also recommend a Magnadoodle or a writing tablet of some sort for drawing. Books are another great thing to keep them busy as well.
- Pillow and Blanket – Depending on the time that you are traveling you will want to bring these just in case someone gets tired and falls asleep.
- Cleaning supplies – By this I mean baby wipes and a make shift trash can. Lots of spills, stains, sticky hands can be fixed quickly with wipes. I truly believe wipes can clean anything. HA! They amaze me sometimes on what type of stains they can get out.
Don’t provide all toys, books, games, etc. at once. Take a backpack for each child and reveal them along the trip. It will be something for them to get excited about.
