how to add an icon to your homescreen :: idevice diy #aSIMPLEjuly

Did you know that all month long we’ve been doing a fun little challenge on instagram? Each day has a prompt and all you have to do is take and share a picture on instagram with the hashtag #aSIMPLEjuly. It’s not too late to join the fun!

I’m really having fun with this challenge but I have one little problem. I can never remember what the challenge is for the day. I started to take a screen shot of this and make it my background but I really love the background I have of my girls reading a book together so I tried to figure out another way to have this list easily accessible every day. Solution? Make it an icon on my home screen. Do you know how easy peasy this is to do? And it works for all kinds of things. When we’re at the beach I make an icon for the webpage that tells me the times of high and low tide. When I’m at conferences I make an icon for the main conference schedule page.

Start by going to the particular webpage you’re wanting to see, whether it’s the main page of a site or the link to a specific picture on the site. (For the July insta-photo challenge you’ll need THIS link). Once you are on the link you want, tap the little box that has an arrow coming out of it (pictured, left). A set of options will pop up at the bottom: AirDrop, all the share options (like messages, mail, and Facebook), and then things like “Save Image” and “Bookmark” (pictured, top right).  Swipe those over a bit until you find “Add to Home Screen” (pictured, bottom right).

When you tap on “Add to Home Screen,” a new screen will pop up. You can either leave the name that shows up (pictured, left) or change it to something you like (pictured, right). Once you’re done renaming it, tap “Add” at the top of your screen and voila!

Now whenever you’re ready to see what the day’s prompt is, just click on your new homescreen icon! See why I didn’t want to get rid of my background? So sweet!
