how to make bath paint and bath crayons :: how-to + party favors #JohnsonsPartners

“I used baby products by JOHNSON’S® to care for my little one as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars – all opinions are my own! #johnsonspartners

My littlest lady is turning one on the 26th. ONE! What happened this past year?!?! It flew by, that’s for sure!! We celebrate big time when it comes to our little angels turning one. We typically have outdoor parties that involve lots of playing, renting bounce houses, and on and on. We have a blast. But, my three older children all had birthdays in warm months. Here in Michigan, we had a heat wave today. We hit 30 degrees! Woot!! That being said, there is NO chance we will be having an outdoor party. I sure tried though. We were going to do a Winter Wonderland with sledding and snowmobiling. But alas, we scrapped that in case we have more below zero weather days. We will still be having a super duper party, but it’s going to be indoors this time!

Once we decided on this, I started thinking about what we can do to make it special. I wanted some fun little touches that will make me smile…and her smile too when she looks back at pictures. Right now, one of her FAVORITE things to do is bath time with her sisters. So, why not use that as inspiration. I shared some silly pictures of my little ones before in the bath, but today, I want to share with you what we will be handing out as favors at my little one’s 1st birthday party.

The premise behind these party favors was something that could be used and something that is fun. I made bathtub crayons and bathtub paint to hand out to all the kids attending! I don’t have them all completed yet as we are still waiting on final numbers, but I wanted to share what I did with you all! Get your wheels turning too if you are in the party planning (or just cool mom) mode.

You can easily do these two activities with kids, although I opted to just get it done on my own.

I started with the bathtub crayons. The list of items I needed was short and the process was SO simple. And the great part about it, these didn’t take days to settle…they were ready to roll in about an hour! So vibrant and pretty!

I purchased a package of glycerin soap from Michael’s (the craft store) and divvy’d it up per color. I used a whole row (4 squares) for each “sheet” shown.
2 tablespoons JOHNSON’S® baby head-to-toe wash
10 drops of soap coloring
10 drops of lavender oil – because that item is supposed to calm. I like that added touch, plus, it smells amazing!
I purchased “candy trays” from the craft store as well, to make my bathtub crayons. The little ones have such little hands, I thought this would be easy for them to hold. My oldest picked out the underwater creatures, she thought that was fitting. 🙂IMG_6559IMG_6568

Melt the glycerin soap and the JOHNSON’S® baby head-to-toe wash in the microwave for 1 minute and 15 seconds (if you use the quantity shown above). If you do this, and it’s not melted, just add more time. Once it is all melted, I added the remainder of the ingredients, mixed it all together and then poured in the “candy trays”. From there, they took up residence in my fridge. After about an hour, they were hard, but we let them sit longer before testing.IMG_6581

Next, was the thing I was much more excited about. I mean, come on! Who doesn’t want to paint in the bath! I know my littles most certainly will love this!! This one was very simple as well. Take all the ingredients listed below, put them all in the bowl, mix (there will be bubbles…but naturally because we added soap!) and then pour in the jars you want to store the paint in. Let me warn you though, you won’t be doing a lot of storing. I see these containers as a one time use because the kids have so much fun with them. Ha!

Bathtub Paint
1 tablespoon corn starch
3 tablespoons JOHNSON’S® baby head-to-toe wash
10 drops of lavender oil (added for the same reasons listed above)
10 drops of the soap tint shown to create these pastels paints – but just put as much as you want to create the color you want! You can easily use food coloring as well (I am just unsure if that washes out of grout and off the walls as good, I haven’t tried that!)
3 teaspoons of water (if you want thicker paint, add less water)IMG_6595

One thing I wanted to point out in regards to my ingredients, was the repetitive item I used in both projects, the JOHNSON’S® baby head-to-toe wash. Baby products from JOHNSON’S® are suited for baby’s needs and are paraben-free, phthalate-free and hypoallergenic. It’s trusted for my little ones! Not only are these things great, but there was a reformulation that happened and with that, it made the product more moisturizing and still consisting of a great scent. Win/Win!

I almost completely forgot to share THIS with you too! Did you know that JOHNSON’S® has and offers a Peace of Mind Guarantee? Try the product for 30 days and if you don’t love it, they will refund your purchase price! WHAT?!?!? Awesome-sauce!

Before you go, be sure to pop over and check out JOHNSON’S® on Facebook. It’s a great site with lots of conversation going on!

Well, what do you think? Do you think you will tackle some craft time like I did and make these for your kiddos? Or better yet, to hand out to kids as a party favor?
