Still, it was worth experimenting with Folios Cheese Wraps.
We were able to sample the three flavors of the Wraps: Cheddar, Parmesan and Jarlsberg.
The packaging on the wraps offered a few serving suggestions, so we decided to try using the cheese as a wrap, making the cheese bowls and for easy melting over food.
The first experiment was a simple melting of the Cheddar wrap over soft pretzels. This is was a great success! The cheese melted easily in the microwave and the thin surface gave great coverage over the pretzels. It didn’t take long after removing the pretzels from the microwave, for the cheese to be cool enough to eat without the dangerous hot spots that you often get with liquid cheese.
We also found it worked very well for grilled cheese sandwiches, as it melted very evenly between the bread slices of even strangely shaped sandwiches (i.e. stars, circles, hearts)
Next we experimented with a wrap, my daughter is fond of “spaghetti tacos” so we thought that the Parmesan cheese folios would be the perfect accessory for “spaghetti wraps”. The cheese was difficult to bend without heating it up a little, but once we had softened it for a few seconds in the microwave, we were able to wrap it around the spaghetti and chunky sauce for a perfect (and only slightly messy) walking spaghetti treat.
Finally, we experimented with the cheese bowl. Even after following the directions on the back of the package, the bowl did not hold its shape well once taken off the form. I found that putting it in the refrigerator for a few minutes on the form helped it to keep its shape on its own. Warm food softened the bowl too quickly and the crispier edges were not enough to help it hold shape. However, the bowl worked very well for a cool salad with taquitos garnish and was a hit with the kids.
By far the favorite flavor for the family was the Cheddar wrap, with the Parmesan a close second. The Jarlsburg was not as popular with the kids.
As far as ease of use, these little cheese flats were great for the wraps and for melting. A little more experimentation with the bowls would probably yield some great results there as well. The texture and flavor of the cheese was very good and overall, this is a product I would recommend, especially for making dinner party finger foods.
What would you make with your cheese folios this holiday season?

November 17, 2017 at 9:08 amI never knew that this type of cheese existed. They are wonderful sheets of cheese. This would be great to use for appetizers for the Holidays. I will have to figure out what to make with them!
