You may remember when I shared one of the Sleeping Bear Press I Am A Reader!, Frog and Friends series books a few months back (see review here). We have been enjoying the latest book in this fun series, Frog Saves the Day. This book contains two cute and funny stories by Eve Bunting that are once again illustrated by Josee Masse. My girls weren’t the only ones giggling as Frog and his friends mistake a train for a dragon (that eats people) and I laughed out loud in the second story when:
Rabbit and Possum talked about names for babies.
“I like One, Two, Three, Four, Five for mine” Possum said.
Rabbit Said, “I just call all of mine ‘Bunny.’ I ran out of names a long time ago, I have had a lot of babies.”
Sleeping Bear Press has also started publishing a new I Am A Reader! series about a brother and sister, Digger and Daisy. The Digger and Daisy series is now 2 books strong and are written by Judy Young with illustrations by Dana Sullivan. Like the Frog and Friends series these books are for early readers and include great illustrations with easy to read stories. While the Frog and Friends series is aimed at reading level Grades 1-2, the Digger and Daisy series is perfect for Grades K-1.
In Digger and Daisy Go to the Zoo brother and sister dogs, Digger and Daisy go see the animals at the zoo. Throughout the story Daisy explains to little brother Digger which actions they see the various animals do that Digger can or cannot imitate. There was learning and laughs as these sibling pups explore the new things they encounter.
Book 2 in the series is Digger and Daisy Go on a Picnic we find Daisy explaining to Digger what the various scents he finds are (as well as the dangers of getting to close to each of those wonderful smells). It doesn’t take long for Digger to fill his nose with dirt, ending all of his sniffing and snuffing. After that, of course, is when young Digger learns a lesson about what happens when dogs meet skunks (SMELLY!!!).
