Any parent of a toddler has been through the troubles of their child being too scared to sleep in their own bed “just because”—because of a monster, because of a noise, or because of a bad dream. Hopefully this book will be the companion to all the reasons why our young ones should want to spend more time in their bedrooms and realize that there is nothing to fear. This book takes a child on a journey to all the places they wouldn’t want to sleep and outlines the reasons why their own bed is the perfect place to sleep.
I was contacted recently to review this book because my son has been saying he is very scared of the dark and does not want to sleep in his bed. Naturally I have no clue what to say to him but oh it’s okay mommy is here, I will never let anyone or anything hurt you. That doesn’t work. Reading this book to him has helped with him being okay with being in his room by himself and being okay with it. We are still having a few troubles but he is doing great. It’s fantastic. He is mostly scared of lightning…and he thinks it happens everyday. I explain to him that it only does it when it rains or thunders…he seems to be okay with it.
I encourage those who have the same problem to give it a shot.
I Sleep in My Own Bed :: $21.99 ($16.49 on Amazon), in August 2010, takes children on a fun-filled journey to all of the places in a home where a child can sleep but wouldn’t want to (think dog house, garage, and bathroom). The book reinforces that the perfect place for a child to sleep is in their own bed. The bright, colorful illustrations and lighthearted humor will be just as enjoyable for you as it is your child. Glenn wrote this book with no initial intentions of publishing it; he was just a dad looking for a solution to help his son. But, when the book worked, he knew it was important to share with others.
