I think we can all admit that sometimes you just need the kids to entertain themselves. Self-entertained children make magical things possible like showering, housework projects, and even going to the bathroom alone. I know, I know, some of you think I’m talking about mythical sparkly unicorns right now, but I assure you, This. Is. Possible!
Last week I had a package arrive from Magformers and since then I have been getting more and more of these self-entertained children moments. Both of my girls (ages 4 and 6) were so entertained by connecting the flat magnetic Magformers shapes from our 62 Piece Set into 3-D objects that on the first day I got a solid 2 hours of argument free playtime from them!
When we have a break in our day and the girls are allowed some free play time I frequently see the Magformers set being put to full use. Building everything from crowns to castles, and blocks to balls, and everything in between, my girls are not only having fun but developing their brains as well!
The Magformers 62-Piece Set even comes with a great Idea Booklet to get you started with building. It contains instructions for a varied selection of 3-D shapes that can be built using the included shapes in that particular set. The book is illustrated in step-by-step photos that make it easy for even my non-reader to follow the directions.
It has been fun watching as my girls used the Idea Booklet as a starting point to go forward with their own creations. For example, I will frequently see the girls creating the Flower Ball (made completely from the pentagon shaped pieces) from the Idea Booklet. This helped them to understand a bit more how the shapes work together and from there I have seen them create helmets and a couple different variations of princess crowns using the pentagon shaped pieces as well.
Not all creations have to be turned into 3-D models, and my girls have found creative ways to use the Magformers shapes in whatever inspired creation they come up with. Honestly, a couple more Magformers sets will be at the top of our Christmas list ideas for the grandparents and other family members this holiday season!
