I still remember my first experience with coding. I was getting started with blogging and, back then, blogs were only done in code. Yes, I’m that old!
It was actually quite fun to learn. My analytical brain and my creative brain finally found a way to come together!
I can only imagine the fun I would have had as a kid with all of these amazing toys today that incorporate coding! Take a peek with me at the award winning Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set!
Designed for kids ages 5 and up, the Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set introduces kids to the basic concept of coding through maze building and programming a fun little mouse named Colby (COLBY! That slays me!).
Kids first start by building a maze for Colby, complete with obstacles and a wedge of cheese. Then they use coding cards to determine which steps Colby needs to take to navigate the maze. By placing the coding cards together, they are in essence writing line code! Then they enter the card sequence into Colby using the color coded buttons and watch him go!
If he doesn’t make it to the end, no problem! Brainstorm a new route, recode and try again! As a parent it’s hard to not just correct the kids as you seem them making a “coding” mistake but don’t! Having them brainstorm why he didn’t make it and re-writing the code is a great way to encourage problem solving!
The Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set is great because it truly grows with young coders as they begin to explore creating more difficult mazes for Colby.
My number one tip for this toy :: Read the instructions first! Whether you are familiar with coding or not, your kids will have way more fun if you take a few minutes to understand the concepts of this game!
Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set comes with just one mouse (Colby) but you can purchase an additional mouse for multiplayers. His name is Jack! HA!!! Jack!! Colby…Jack…I love it!
You can purchase the Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set and additional Robot Mouse (er…Mice?) at LearningResources.com or most major toy retailers just in time to get it under the tree for your little coders this Christmas!
