My favorite season is upon us! FALL! It seriously is my favorite. The thought of jeans and sweatshirts and comfy cool weather makes my heart happy. Another thing that makes my heart happy is doing family things in the fall and holidays that are coming up. September and October are the perfect time for apple picking. We love the fresh delicious apples that you can go to the farm and pick yourself. The kids totally love it. Plus, this was Charlee’s first year of being able to pick them herself. She really just wanted to pick up all the ones on the ground.
This past weekend we went to a local farm to pick some apples. It was actually quite hot, but we were able to pick 10lbs of apples in no time.
Now, that you have picked all your apples what will you do with them. My first recipe to make is apple crisp, this is my all time favorite recipe. Everyone loves it. One year we actually had a apple crisp contest and mine won. That just means you have to try it.
Apple Crisp
Bottom:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine
Filling:
36 ounces of sliced apple
1/4 cup apple juice
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
Topping:
1-1/2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons butter or margarine
In a bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Pat into a greased 9-in square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, peel and cut the apples. In a medium sauce pan, add apples, apple juice, sugar, and cornstarch. Bring to a boil, stirring consistently, for about 2 minutes or until thickened and apples are soft, then remove from heat. Pour onto crust. For topping, combine oats, brown sugar and flour. Cut in the butter and mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over filling. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
Doesn’t this look and sound delicious? You know you want to try it. Now, go pick some apples this week or weekend and bake up some apple crisp for that family of yours!
And as much as I hate getting photos of myself, moms we have to get in those pictures, you need to be in the memories too, do it for your kids!! So here I am, getting in the moment!!
