I spend a lot of time in my kitchen. Cooking, baking and prepping all keep me busy. And, thankfully, my kids are pretty curious in the kitchen as well. They often love to help me bake but, until recently, I’ve been too worried to let them help with much of the prep work. Thankfully we just started using Kiddies Food Kutter and Safety Food Peeler.
Because I cook so frequently, my kitchen is stocked with very sharp knives. Knives that I don’t let my kids near. So when it comes to chopping, dicing and peeling, I always just did it myself. But the Kiddies Food Kutter and Safety Food Peeler are safe enough that even my two-year-old can try to cut and peel with us.
The Kiddies Food Kutter is a knife with rounded teeth and no sharp edges so it can cut food without cutting your child! My children quickly leaned to use a sawing action to chop veggies for our chicken noodle soup. Even my two-year-old got in on the action. While he isn’t quite coordinated enough to chop carrots, he still felt like he was part of the team when I let him use a knife! I loved having a little extra help with my dinner prep.
The Safety Food Peeler does not have a metal blade like most peelers. It’s angled, plastic “blade” keeps little hands and fingers safe while they peel fruits and vegetables. When I first saw the peeler, I had my doubts that it would work. I had to try it out first and I was truly impressed–I quickly peeled a carrot and then set my kids to work peeling the rest of them.
Now that my kids are learning to use their own knives, will I be able to move on from cutting their dinners into small pieces? I thought this day would never come!
