When I first got a smart phone I loved every single thing about it. Everything except that one pesky little problem: by early evening (or early afternoon, depending on the day!) my battery would be hovering around 3% and I’d have to start searching for a charger. Smart phone batteries have certainly gotten better since those early smart phone days but there are plenty of times that I still find myself with an almost-dead phone before it’s time for bed. I know that there are some people who can charge their battery and it’ll last for ages, but I use my phone quite a bit – especially photography apps that like to zap up a lot of power.
A few months ago, I tried a power stick that I could use to charge my phone on the go. That would have worked out really well if I could have remembered to bring it with me…but I never could. About that time, a friend of mine posted a picture on Facebook of what her phone battery looked like almost two days after she’d last charged it. It still had a decent amount of charge and people were scrambling to find out how she’d managed that. She told us about this new battery case she had and how great it was to go to a conference and not have to snag a seat nearest to a power outlet! I did a little perusing online and found a case that was reasonably priced but very plain. No design. Nothing fancy or pretty about it. What I really wanted was a case that could charge my phone and be cute too. Someone somewhere surely had to have a cute charging case, I thought. The next day there was an email in my inbox about Uncommon’s Power Gallery cases. Uncommon not only has some super cool ready-made cases but also gives the option to customize your case.
All Power Gallery cases (ready-made and custom) have a nice, sturdy frame for the case. Once you slip the phone into the base of the frame, you can attached the bumper around the edges. The first time I put it on, I thought that the case was messed up. But I realized that to secure the bumper to the rest of the case you have to gently push the edges into the little grooves designed for them! You can see in the top picture there is a space above their heads that’s bowed up a little. And in the bottom picture I’ve simply pushed the bumper into its proper place.
So how do you make it work? Start by charging the case (and the phone) with the included USB charge/sync cable. When you plug in the charger, the phone charges first and then the case charges. When the phone and battery are both fully charged, the light will stop flashing and the blue will stay on. When I take my case off of the charger, I make sure that the charging case is OFF. Hold the little silver button until the charging icon on your phone goes away. Later in the day when my battery starts getting low I hold that same silver button for a few seconds until the battery icon shows that it’s charging. And how long does this thing last? All day long and then some! I can’t make it two full days on one charge, but I use my phone a lot. My mow would probably be able to make one charge last 2-3 days. There are a lot of things that I like about Uncommon’s Power Gallery but my favorite thing is that I can see my four favorite little happy faces any time I wish and I have enough power to take more pictures of those faces.

September 12, 2014 at 10:33 amI had a question for you. Does your battery case charge your phone fully 1 time then you have to recharge both? I was able to get a full charge off my case the first day I got it. Then it died the second time I was attempting to charge my phone. I charged the case on its own the first 2 times but last night I charged both phone and case and it took almost 6 hours to fully charge. I was and am hoping that I can get two fill charges out of it before having to charge th both together again. Just wanted another persona input

September 17, 2014 at 10:09 pmI only turn on the charger part once my phone battery has died down, which is usually later in the day. I plug in at night and it’s always fully charged in the morning. I have discovered, however, that if you don’t use the USB cord that was sent with the charger, it won’t recharge properly. I left mine at home when I went on a trip and borrowed one from a friend and it didn’t charge the battery pack at all, but did charge the phone while it was in the case. Does that make sense?
