My girls are big fans of the Little Pim DVDs. If you’re not familiar, Little Pim is an award winning program for teaching a foreign language to young children. You can see what my girls and I originally thought of their DVDs here.
Little Pim currently offers various teaching aids in 10 different languages and are a great resource for parents looking to introduce a second (or third) language at an early age.
As a Spanish speaker myself choosing a language to teach our girls was fairly easy. We went with what we knew and what many of my extended family members have chosen as a second language (at last count I had about 10 cousins who were also fluent in Spanish as a second language).
But don’t let the idea of teaching your child a second language intimidate if you are strictly an English speaking family so far. Little Pim DVDs offer subtitles for parents to read along with while helping their kids learn, and the new Little Pim Feelings and Little Pim Colors books even had the phonetics for each Spanish or French phrase included!
My girls are really enjoying these books and it’s given us a great way to include some French phrases into our already ongoing Spanish lessons.
A combination of illustrations and photographs help make these sturdy cardboard pull tabs and lift-a-flap pages ready for some tough love from new language learners. If you’d like to take advantage of the young ages where learning a language comes more naturally I highly recommend the Little Pim tools!

October 26, 2012 at 11:35 amThanks for the review Carinn. I agree, though I don’t speak French, I watch the French DVDs with my 3 yr. old daughter and they aren’t intimidating at all. You don’t even need the subtitles to grasp what is going on, which I guess is a part of the immersion technique. Great program.

October 6, 2012 at 1:51 pmThank you for the review, these will make it easier for the kids when they reach kindergarten age to help on learning the language faster. In our school district they start in preschool on teaching a different language
