let’s discuss what dress for success® is really all about {#WomenWhoDo #ic ad}

Remember when I visited New York over the summer and started sharing all things Vanity Fair with you all? I really hope this has encouraged you to dig in further to the brand. And if you haven’t yet, I’m hoping what I’ll share today will give you the extra push to check them out!

When I was in New York, after we were able to get inside from a MASSIVE rain storm (I mean, it was BBAADDDD!!), we had the opportunity to learn a little more about Dress for Success^®. If you look at the name, you can most likely figure out what they are about. But, there’s so much more to it, and that’s what I want to share with you today!

Dress for Success^® is a global not-for-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Can you imagine having a life, but no job? Imagine the questions that would run through you head each day. Food, clean clothes, new clothes, transportation.

Imagine having a FAMILY, but no job? Again, the same question except amplify them! I can’t fathom what some of the women have went through before they became associated with Dress for Success^®.

A job to me gives me a sense of self-worth, it allows me to feel like I’m not only contributing to the job I’m at, but contributing to my family. I’m bringing in money to buy food, clothes, toys…things my children need, and even what they simply “want” at times. It makes me smile being able to provide for them. Sometimes, something as simple as allowing them to get a gumball from the candy machine. Not having a job means I would have to think BIG TIME about allowing my child a simple, $0.25 luxury. I’m so thankful for what I have, and I know for a fact that the women who have went through the Dress for Success^® program feel the same way. Why? Because we met some! I know you weren’t there, so I want to share the video below with you:

Dress for Success is all about helping women earn and learn and allows them to get the tools to get back to work. They help the women stay employed as well as progress in their positions. They help and teach them to become better. Obviously, the women who go through this program really want it, so I think this is amazing that it’s so much more than just the basics. The women are part of a team now that wants the best for them, their families and their development.

This part really gets me. 70% of the women that are part of Dress for Success are mothers raising, on average, 2-3 children. So, Dress for Success is truly changing families, and helping a mother become a better woman AND a mother. Because, as we all know, it’s all one in the same. Dress for Success believes that helping a woman get a job and keep that job is only part of it. The “self-sufficiency” that comes with it is more than just a suit or a job, it’s independence!

Since starting operations in 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to more than 140 cities in 20 countries and has helped more than 850,000 women work towards self-sufficiency.
