Ok, can we be real here? Right now we are seeing a plethora of posts about what everyone’s Elf on the Shelf has been up to over night. Yes, there are those that are freakin’ over the top with their elf, (you know, like pooping peppermints and such) and there are those that simply move the little guy/gal around from tree limb to toilet. And you know what, I bet the kids don’t care where he is. It’s the joy of finding him! And as a parent, it’s the smile that occurs when finding him that makes us do it. By the way, I’m totally doing the peppermint one. Just sayin’.
Every morning, when my little ladies get up since the arrival of our little “Jingle” on December 1st, the excitement of running around finding him is contagious. What’s hilarious is the expression on my husband and I’s face when we have to act surprised.
“WOW! He’s so tricky!”
“That silly Jingle, he’s so creative!!”
You know, one thing we have been doing is switching days that we hide him. So there actually is an element of surprise, it’s not ALL fake. Total insider tip, thank me later 😉
But…let’s a have a little heart to heart. There are definitely the elf haters. Haters be hatin’ all day long…but most of them aren’t in a house where the little ones are having a blast with this silly ritual. No judging here if I’m talking about you! 🙂
Yes, I hate getting out of bed because I forgot to move our elf.
Yes, I get mom guilt when I’m not creative and just pick a perch instead of making a grand plan for his appearance of the day.
HOWEVER, It’s totally worth it in my eyes guys! My kids are just loving it. It’s not going to be long and they aren’t going to have that magical twinkly in their eye because of “reality” setting in. I am holding tight to this fun little tradition. I really hope you are too. Or, I hope you can see past the junk going on around you and the elf bashing taking place. Just let it roll off your shoulders and keep enjoying the moments with your children. We all know too well, time flies.
Let’s let the elf fly along with the time, shall we?

December 5, 2014 at 6:48 amWe don’t get too crazy with the Elf… we really just move him to a different spot either hanging from something or sitting on something. My grandsons still love just waking up and trying to find him.
