One awesome thing about it now being summer break is the fact that I don’t have to worry about getting the dreaded yellow note home in my girls’ folders. This dreaded note gave very descriptive details upon what happens when a child has had lice and was at school. I cringe EVERY SINGLE TIME I read that word. Lice – ACK!! It is what it is. It happens to clean people who shower every day, it happens to kids who shower once a week. You just never know if and when it could strike. So, I have done a few things to attempt to keep lice out of my girls’ hair and wanted to share what’ worked thus far.
Put their hair up in a bun or a braid. Sure, I love their long hair flowing as they run to the bus stop. But, we can make it look cute with their hair up too with bows, flowers, clips, etc. too.
Prevent with products. I was recently sent a handful of SoCozy products and that’s when I learned about the preventative line that they offer, boo! The name alone got me smiling and had me reading what it was all about. For starters, the details on the products you would be putting on your child. They are non-toxic and made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic color, propylene glycol, gluten, wheat or nuts. Less is more when it comes to any products for my family!
While the SoCozy line offers a TON of great styling and bathing options, the lice prevention line got me. It is a spray and a preventative shampoo. Simple application for your kids. All they have to do is massage in the preventative shampoo, rinse and when they get out of the shower, apply the spray. From there, the lice will hopefully stay away. I encourage you to read the ingredients further over on the SoCozy site so you can see what they do to the product to make it work.
Look, look, look. It may seem odd and it might drive your kids batty, but look often. Spread their hair apart all over the place. Look behind the ears and at the hair line. Split the hair up top too. Look for anything suspicious and take serious note if you see something that should be there. One thing funny that happens is I tend to find out what happens at school too. I see scabs from when they have hit their head and forgot to tell me about it. Then I ask once I see it and hear all about the funny stories.
Washing their hair. I am NO expert on this, I have only gone on hear say. But, I’ve heard that clean hair attracts lice better. So, we don’t shower the girls’ hair every night, we do every other night.
Ok, back to the products mentioned above before I go. This may seem silly, but I just had to say it. I know that looks don’t really matter to most, it’s what’s inside that counts. And that’s true for me 99% of the time. Like, I won’t pick a product that is total crap but has a cool package. I care about what is going on my children’s body, scalp, etc. I think it’s pretty cool that SoCozy products are cool on the inside AND outside of the packet. Am I right? Ha!All right, so…now it’s your turn! What has worked for you in the lice department? Also, if you are interested in checking out the SoCozy line of products that you can find at Target, here is a $3 off the SoCozy line at Target. Hurry. Coupon below expires 6/13!

June 9, 2015 at 10:27 pmMy little niece has had lice 2 times! Ugh! Just the thought of them makes my head itch. She got them at school and with her long hair it took my poor sister forever to thoroughly comb her hair. I cannot wait to tell her about this product line!! 🙂

June 8, 2015 at 8:47 pmAwesome to know there is better products out there, especially for lice that do not contain any toxic chemicals and that are made without any of that other unneeded stuff. I always look at what is in my products before buying.

June 8, 2015 at 4:05 pmI cannot fathom why any child should have lice, but it happens especially in schools. It’s good to know that Target has an great product in SoCozy that parents can feel good about in preventing these nasty little bugs.
