A couple years back I picked up this really cute book called “Little Michigan” for my girls. Even though we’re transitioning out of the board book phase at our house “Little Michigan” is still a favorite of my girls as it contains some really great illustrations that go with a page by page riddle for them to figure out the answer too.
Little did I know that the “Little Michigan” book is part of the Little board book series from Sleeping Bear Press! Each book in the Little series has an illustration providing a clue to each riddle where with the turn of a page the illustrated answer comes into view!
We recently got to enjoy two new additions to the Little series, “Little Dance” and “Little Halloween.”
Last week I put my oldest daughter’s hair up in a bun and told her it looked “just like a ballerina!” in an attempt to get her to keep the hairstyle in for longer than a hot second. Little did I know that she would disappear for 5 minutes to return dressed to look the part, complete with ballet slippers and a tutu. She even outfitted her little sister, who gladly played along.
With that little story in mind it should come as no surprise that “Little Dance” by Renee Benoit was an instant hit with my dance loving crowd. The dance themed riddles and illustrations entranced my girls from start to finish and I’m sure to have the entire book memorized from repeat readings in no time at all!
“Little Halloween” was written by Denise Brennan-Nelson and illustrated by Helle Urban and is full of cute illustrations and Halloween themed riddles. If you’re searching for a book for a young audience who can’t handle any of the scarier portrayals of Halloween-themed books than look no further!
After reading “Little Halloween” my first thought was that it would make the perfect Halloween treat if I had a very young special Trick-or-Treater this year that wasn’t quite ready for candy (i.e. nephews, nieces, cousins, grandkids, etc.). What a great way to fill a Halloween treat pail!
