One of the hottest toys this holiday season is designed for a wide range of ages, fun for both genders and is surprisingly affordable as well. Little Live Pets birds are adorable palm-sized pets that can respond to your child’s touch and can make 30 different sounds, including tweets, chirps and whistles. You can even record words and phrases that the bird will repeat back to you, in her little birdie voice.
The Little Live Pets bird and cage is recommended for children ages 5-7, but we played with it with friends ranging in age from 2 to 9 and they all had a blast with it (just be sure to keep a close eye on the little ones as there are small parts not recommended for children under the age of 3). The older kids loved recording silly phrases and listening to the bird repeat them back. They also had fun setting up a “home” for the bird outside of her cage. The younger children loved holding the bird and listening to her sing. My youngest son was so sad when we put the bird away for the day. He kept asking for “birdie” over and over.
Little Live Pets birds are sold in a double-pack with a cage ($24.99), a single-pack with a cage ($19.99) and on their own with no cage ($9.99). I personally recommend buying one with a cage simply because I love having a dedicated place to keep small toys and I know my kids would be sad if anyone stepped on their sweet little bird. You can find these fun toys at Toys “R” Us, WalMart and many other independent toy stores.
