Baby monitors. This used to be a pretty general subject. Turn it on…. and hear your baby. Wow, how things have changed in just a few short years. Now there is the technology to not only hear your little one, but see them…live…wirelessly… on your mobile devices. Pretty darn amazing if you ask me. Our very recent experience has me sold on these little guys.
We have been using a unit from Dropcam the last couple of weeks and couldn’t possibly be more impressed. We are completely blown away and can’t imagine what took us so long to jump on the bandwagon of Wi-Fi video monitors. I had always heard my friends talk about their video monitors, and I always thought it was for the paranoid parents LOL! Now, I am one…but not paranoid. Using this Dropcam just makes sense for our family! It’s ease of use and set up was so simplistic that even I could figure it out. And that is saying a lot because I get confused quite easily when it comes to technology.
- Setup was super easy. The dropcam website states a 60 second setup and it really is true. Plug and play at it’s finest.
- The video quality is shocking. People can’t believe that I am showing them live video when I let them take a peek on my iPhone. The night vision is much more crisp than others I have seen as well (you can see below – lights on and lights off on my sleeping daughter). HD quality…. enough said.
- Two-way audio = amazing. That means, when your children get out of bed, you can remind them to get back in, etc.
- The mobile apps are just important as the camera with an item like this. Really simply, lots of options and very reliable. On your iPad you can view up to four cameras at the same time even!
- LOTS of value. Dropcam has built a superior product at a price other manufacturers will have trouble beating. In this case, more expensive certainly does not mean better.
- Multi screen viewing for up to FOUR cameras!! So, that’s four rooms that can be monitored!
- You do have to purchase a package if you want playback at any time. For instance, if you want to see what happens throughout the night, you can! It’s a small monthly fee and if you have a sleep walker, or something you want to keep an eye on…this may be a great option for you!

I would love to be able to watch the baby while she is sleeping while keep our toddlers entertained in the family room so that she can get her nap and to keep an eye on the all the kids while they are playing in their rooms.

My boys are older now (4 and 6) but it would be sooo nice to have the comfort of keeping an eye on them while they are in their playroom (little boys can create mischief out of anything i think lol) and still be able to be in the kitchen making supper, etc.
