During these uncertain times, so many businesses are on the verge on not knowing what to do. Some are struggling huge while others are flourishing. Either way, my family and I have decided to shop local more than ever. Shopping local has always been something I love but now it’s almost a required thing when we are looking to either purchase or eat something. We want to help where we can!
All that being said, I have wanted to start a series for YEARS now sharing local companies…shopping small. So, why not start during this Quarantine of 2020.
To kick this series off, I am featuring Macie and Me. You have surely seen this company shared over the years here on the blog as well as our social media. She has great items for mommas and kiddos! I have a little Q&A so you can get to know HER and her BUSINESS a little more!
What do you make and what made you start your own business?
Our first daughter, Savannah, had a head full of hair we couldn’t control. We used all sorts of bows in it and headbands but had a hard time finding something we really liked. On our first date night out after having Savannah we walked past a local little shop that had the prettiest fabrics. I couldn’t get it out of my head that I could make her bows myself. I went back to that store 3 days later, bought my own sewing machine, and taught myself how to sew. We started making headbands and scarves and we’ve grown into all sorts of children’s (and adult!) accessories and clothing.
Lately it’s felt like work ours have been bleeding into my home hours. We have a little shop away from home so we can try to keep work time separate from home time. Corona has thrown a wrench in our babysitting time so I’ve been working different hours. I’ve been squeezing in as much play with the girls as I can and cooking a lot more meals. After the girls go to bed it’s usually back to work but if I’m caught up then my husband and I will watch a few of our favorite shows.

That’s a toughy Shannon! Gosh, I’ve learned A LOT. Sometimes it feels like my brain is full and I can’t fit any more in there. Anyone else? If I had to boil it down, I’ve learned perseverance. This business is a rollercoaster and one month can be great and the next can be one of the hardest.
Baby bloomer shorts! I think about the chunky little baby thighs that will be in them every time I sew a pair.
Quality and attention to detail. I would never sell something to anyone I’m not proud of and wouldn’t put my name on. I’m extremely picky about how bows are tied and they way they look. When we make a new product I’ll wait weeks before releasing it to make sure it’s up to our standards and we like it for our own kids.
Headbands! Top knot headbands have been our best seller. Babies all the way to adults can wear them 😉
This Momma is a rock star. I don’t know how she does what she does but I’m super proud of her for rocking a business, especially during these times!
What can I say, a favorite for sure and hopefully your next shopping adventure!! What’s one thing you’d like to get in your shopping cart today from Macie & Me?
