Mom trips are always fun. Getting a bunch of moms or girlfriends together to take a trip without kids and hubby should be on your list of things to do. I wanted to share with you the top travel activities for mom travelers in Sao Paulo. Yup, in Brazil. Wouldn’t it be amazing to take a trip there with your mom friends?
Sao Paulo is the most renowned city in Brazil, and it is located 45 miles from Santos, and 267 miles from Rio de Janeiro. It is the most important town in Brazil economically, culturally and politically. With a population of over 17.5 million people and the wave of immigration, the city has a mixture of cultures and cuisines that is reflected in the many opera companies, restaurants, and theaters. The city has lots of hangouts and museums, and its nightlife is the whole night. Thus, if you are a mom traveler looking for enticing activities to do, this is the right place to be.
2. MASP (Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo) Sao Paulo has many excellent museums, but MASP ranks as the best art museum. It houses the finest collection of Western art in Latin America, and it has good temporary exhibitions. On Tuesdays, the public is allowed free entry, but Saturdays offer the greatest fun.
3. Handicrafts, antiques, and street food On Saturdays, the area surrounding MASP on Avenida Paulista host two excellent outdoor markets. The space under the museum is transformed into an enormous market for antiques, and the area across the street becomes a handicraft market, and excellent food is sold here as well.
4. Experience the best architecture of the city Oscar Niemeyer, one of the most acclaimed architects of the 20th century, was a Brazilian, and you can see his work in several places in Sao Paulo. The most striking features of his creativity are the curving lines that he likened to a woman’s body, and the impression of defying gravity. These buildings break the monotony of the “endless” white apartments that are characteristic of Sao Paulo. They include buildings such as those found in the Parque Ibirapuera. The city also has some charming colonial and historical structures that you can enjoy viewing.
5. Museu Afro Brasil The Museo Afro Brasil is among the nicest of the city’s museums. It is housed in one of the buildings also designed by Niemeyer. It exhibits some of the most astounding African cultures in Brazil.
6. Latin American Memorial The Memorial da America Latina is a set of buildings also designed by Niemeyer in honor of the struggles of the Latin Americans. And here also, celebrations and public events are regularly held. The buildings include a library, center for research, art displays that include the folk art of Latin America, and the Brazilian Center for Latin American Studies. Here, you can walk around and soak in the unusual architectural features. But, ensure that you enter into the buildings if possible.
7. Ipiranga Ipiranga, built in 1895, preserves 400 years of the Brazilian history, and houses paintings, old maps, furniture and photographs. It is situated in an attractive, Neo-Classical palace that has European-style gardens. You can access Ipiranga by bus and metro.
Sao Paulo is a great city that has lots of attractions such as traditional Brazilian foods, live Samba music, lots of museums to study the Brazilian culture and history, and beautiful architecture to view. The locals are warm people, and indeed it is a city worth visiting. When scouting for Sao Paulo Hotels, look for reputable establishments such as the Hilton Sao Paulo Morumbi.
Does Sao Paulo look like a great place to take a trip? What would be your favorite place to see?

August 23, 2015 at 9:48 pmI’ve needed a mom trip for over 10 years but still have not gone anywhere. Now that I watch my grandchildren, I don’t know when I will ever get to have a little bit of time to myself with my friends. I hope I will be able to do it in the next 6 months or so as Dr. orders have come down that I have to stop doing for everyone else & take care of myself. I so need a vacation.
