We really, really love Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band around here. Their previous release “Oh Lucky Day!” is still on rotation for my music loving girls (review here) and we were extremely excited when we learned about their new album, A Potluck!
Today after listening to the song “Lines and Dots” we went from a 2-year-old fighting off a visit to The Land of Nod, to finishing out the song with a fist pump and a “Wheeeeee!!!” Every time I looked in my rear-view mirror I could see her legs and arms pumping as she danced along while strapped into her carseat. Double thumbs up from the kiddos on this one!
The songs on A Potluck reflect the real-life, mixed-stew Los Angeles neighborhood where the band members live and work. “We spend every day walking the sidewalks around our house, and literally, you hear a unique sound coming out of every window and door,” says Lucky Diaz. The Berklee College graduate will marry his Jam Band collaborator Alisha Gaddis a few days after the CD is released. Together with the guest artists who recorded their tracks in their backyard cottage sound studio, Alisha and Lucky have crafted a big sound that is a splash of Foster the People, a sprinkle of Death Cab for Cutie and a shaker full of Dan Zanes sing-along style, plus a whole lot of international influences kicking it up a notch.
How cute is it that they’re getting married? Congrats Lucky & Alisha!!!
Back on track, while “Oh Lucky Day!” was definitely geared for little girls, “A Potluck” is for any kid who likes good music (and parents who enjoy children’s music that doesn’t always sound like children’s music).
