You do not have to hit rock bottom to understand that sinking feeling of watching your life spiral down the drain, but there does have to be a moment of clarity, an “awakening” to the fact that something is missing from your life. “There will be a desperate moment, a difficult circumstance, maybe a deserved consequence, when you will realize that your way isn’t working and you need your heavenly Father.”
Your life may not be spinning wildly out of control, but there is an area in all of our lives that we refuse to surrender to God and keep locked up tight in our souls. We don’t want others to know we struggle with debt, with anger, with jealousy, with alcoholism… name your “struggle” here. Kyle Idleman‘s book AHA is a wonderful read that encourages us to examine our lives and fully surrender EVERY area to God.
Throughout the book I found myself laughing at Kyle’s personal examples and funny wit, but I also found myself saying “ouch” a few times as he said something that hit a little too close to home. It made me have an honest chat with myself and realize that I am not perfect and have a lot that I need to surrender to God and let HIM work on, even if on the outside I appear to “have it all together.”
The steps of AHA:
- Awakening to the reality of who we are in Christ
- Renewed honesty to see our need for a Saviour
- Inspired to action, we obey God and follow Christ’s example
Even if it seems you have no where to go, give it to God and He will lift you up, brush the dirt off of you, and cloth you with a joy that is indescribable… but first you need to have that AHA moment!
