We don’t usually do much to celebrate Valentine’s Day at our house. We might have pink heart pancakes for breakfast or go out for ice cream, but usually no flowers or gifts or that kind of thing. I still like to make the day fun and incorporate some L-O-V-E into our school day though. We might do a Valentine Vocab Scramble where they have to match words and definitions, which are each written on different halves of a paper heart. Or we might make heart art like some of these. One thing we’re doing for sure this year is talking about the anatomy of a real heart and then going to the Bodies Exhibition in Atlanta! But we’re also going to do something else: a Valentine’s Word Search. When the BIC Window Markers first came in the mail, I made a word search with each of my children’s names as well as a few lovely words like heart, love, candy, that sort of thing and wrote it on the window part of our front door. I can’t wait to do it again! They found all the words fairly easily but I’m working on a new one for Valentine’s Day morning and it’s no joke – 40 x 40 letters! I’m fairly certain I can squeeze the whole thing on the front door, although they may need a step stool to reach the top letters!
The markers reminded me a little of paint pens. When you first get them, you shake them and then hold down the point until the ink bleeds into the tip. I think I may have held them down a little too long because the first few letters were a little drippy. After that, it was smooth writing! Also, once it was dry it stayed on well but wiped off easily with a wet wipe. I did drop the marker once while I was writing and it made a huge streak down the bottom of the door but even that wiped off easily without leaving any mark!
