When the temperatures rise my girls get excited for frozen treats. With all the sugar and dyes to be found in most popsicles you find at the store I am a big believer in making my girls homemade pops. Controlling the ingredients and being able to only provide flavors they will enjoy means that everyone wins atour house.
Thanks to our new Zoku Fish Pop Molds now my girls only want to have Fish Pops as their dessert each evening, and with fun undersea creatures like a Shark, Clownfish, Octopus, Whale, Puffer Fish and even a Zoku Scuba Diver, who can blame them? Even more fun for the girls is that each of the sticks contains a “skeleton” that is revealed as the pops are eaten.
At first glance I was wondering how I would perfectly match up the sticks and the correctly corresponding pop mold? But then I noticed that each mold and stick/drip guard has a unique shape on it such as a square, triangle, heart, or circle. All I have to do is line up the correct matching pair of shapes and the finished pop will have the matching stick.
To make things silly (or just test the knowledge of the kids) you can mix and match the lined up shapes, or even turn the sticks so the guide shapes are not aligned. My girls have fun each evening as they discover what that day’s pop mold will be for them and even when I’m making just ice (as requested by the 4-year-old) the Fish Pops are fun.
You don’t need to run water over the molds to remove the pops either. Once they have completely frozen just pull on the pop stick and the mold will turn itself inside out as you peel out the pop. Plus, the mold and sticks are very easy to clean and can be used to make ice pops, lollipops, chocolates, and fish shaped ice cubes (how much fun would that be to see a fish ice cube swimming your drink?!?).
The other day I introduced my girls to a childhood favorite of mine, Watermelon Ice Pops. This is one set of Fish Pops I will definitely be making again and again. As a special treat for our readers I share with you one of the easiest recipes ever :: 1) puree/blend some watermelon until it’s completely liquified; 2) pour into molds; 3) freeze; 4) ENJOY!
