mama, i can’t sleep :: review and giveaway

If you’ve ever had your kiddos try to put off bedtime with the time tested excuse of, “I can’t sleep!” You’ll appreciate Mama, I Can’t Sleep from Sky Pony Press, the children’s book imprint of Skyhorse Publishing.

Written by Brigitte Raab and illustrated by Manuela Olten, Mama, I Can’t Sleep is a fun book about a little girl who insists that she just can’t go to sleep.  Her mother keeps telling her how various animals sleep and the little girl gives each a try but they just don’t work.

The comical illustrations of this little girl trying to sleep like a fish with her eyes open, or like a stork standing on one leg, kept my girls enthralled & giggling while I read them the book. Surprisingly, these giggles seemed to help settle them down to sleep and didn’t prolong the going to bed process at all (except for the requests for a repeat reading of the book!).

Mama, I Can’t Sleep is a delightful goodnight book.  Original, amusing, and brimming with fun animal knowledge, this is sure to help any reluctant child — who would much rather sleep in mom and Dad’s bed — to discover that, just like animals, children have their own special way of falling fast asleep. This book is the perfect gift for new parents or anyone living with young children. My kids are enjoying this book all day long and I frequently find my youngest sitting on the couch or at the table absorbed in the illustrations.  I’d definitely suggest this as a great addition to your pre-bedtime book reading selection, especially for kids who enjoy silliness or learning new animal facts.
