I literally know nothing about how to play Minecraft, but I do know this about the game:
- It has peaceful music that is pleasant in the background of our somewhat crazy home.
- The kids can play the game for HOURS if allowed…or if I need to get something done. Minecraft = Nanny
- They can play with their cousins online who are across town. I love to hear them giggle and chat while they play “together”.
- When they yell, “there’s a spider in my bedroom!” it is likely a Minecraft room, not reality. Thank goodness, I don’t do spiders.
Does any of the above mean anything to you? If so, you are going to want to get your little Minecraft lover one of these books. It would be a perfect Christmas gift, birthday gift for your child’s friend, or a nice reward for something your child has been working for.
My main Minecrafter is my son Jack. He’s 7, he’s smart, he loves video games, he’s my delicious boy who is getting too tall and too skinny. I won’t bore you with his YouTube channel, because I’m his mom and I haven’t even gotten through all the footage, but he set up a camera to share some Minecraft tips with his fan club that doesn’t exist. You see, he has been reading Minecraft for Dummies books for the past few months. He picks his favorite 2 for the day and he takes them to school. He loves to learn and talk to his little friends about the game. He comes home from school and I find him curled up in a chair trying to glean more info out of one of his books.
My daughter Annabelle likes to play too. That speaks well for the game that it can engage her as well. She’s 5 so she can’t read the books yet, but she has her brother give tips he’s learned from his studies. There are pictures in the books that are engaging for her when he’s not around to share his knowledge. Funny story- I faked I knew what they were talking about when I settled a fight when one sibling wouldn’t teach the other how to “make my wolf love me.” Try keeping a straight face for that conversation! I should read these books to know what is going on.
I’m going to assume you don’t really know enough about Minecraft to read the details of what each book includes. The front cover sums it up if you follow the links below. From one mom to another, I promise that any of these books would make a great gift for the special someone you know that plays Minecraft. Here are our favorites:
Minecraft For Dummies, Portable Edition
Minecraft Redstone For Dummies, Portable Edition
Minecraft Recipes For Dummies, Portable Edition
Minecraft Construction For Dummies, Portable Edition
Lastly, this is for older kids that want to learn to write code and know a little something about programming: Adventures in Minecraft

December 23, 2014 at 11:48 amI would love to win these for my 14-year-old son – he has autism and Minecraft is his obsession. He even dressed up as Steve for Halloween, with one of those cardboard box heads. (Which I do NOT recommend as a Halloween costume – I didn’t even think about the TERRIBLE visibility of using a cardboard box as a mask, so he had to carry his head around as we visited our friends, and could only put it on once he was safely stopped in a location).

December 16, 2014 at 12:16 amThese would be for my three boys who love minecraft. My mom moment would be having to explain all the drawings my kids do of minecraft things to friends and relatives who have never heard of it. It’s kinda hard to explain to grandma why your child drew them a “creeper.”

December 13, 2014 at 6:54 pmI want to win these for my son. He loves Minecraft, and a lot of his gifts this Christmas are Minecraft themed. I guess my Mom moment related to Minecraft was when I found a pair of black and green plaid pj pants, and I had to ask other employees in the store if they looked like Minecraft pjs. LOL Thanks for the giveaway!

December 9, 2014 at 6:21 pmI have five sons, four of whom are presently Minecraft addicts. Mom moment: the cherished and very limited computer time that I use to enjoy as quiet is now crazy loud with everyone in their worlds and talking or arguing about the whole experience. Now I have to leave the room when it’s computer time or I go nuts!

December 9, 2014 at 5:56 pmJames, this totally made me laugh out loud. Only 2 of our 3 are old enough to play, but I think you made a fantastic move for your sanity. Plus, they can all play each other…but that can cause fights too as you well know. 🙂 Good luck with the giveaway!
