monster jam thunder nationals :: review

LOGO_ThunderNationalsguest post from cheryl today from healthier you on the fun monster jam even held at the van andel arena over the weekend.  be sure to head on over to the monster jam website to see when this great show is heading in your direction!!

It seems like in a blink of an eye a year has come and gone and you look back and realize you forgot to take a break from the everyday life and enjoy spending times with what us really important, family.

We had the rare opportunity to do just that. We decided as a family to attend Monster Jam. I have to admit I was not completely thrilled with the idea of watching a lot of really big, loud trucks bouncing around an arena! I had to remind myself that with a “girlie girl princess” for a daughter it is good for us to make some memories doing something Dad enjoys as well! It didn’t take long to realize my husband was not the only one having a great time, we all were.

The show started at 7:00 pm with an introduction of all the trucks and drivers and soon after was the wheelie contest, where each truck had a chance to “show off” to the crowd. It did not take us long to figure out there is a HUGE fan base for Grave Digger! During the introduction we learned the El Toro Loco was an all girl team so my daughter and I were cheering for “team El Toro Loco.”

Next up was the side by side racing which was pretty amazing to see. These massive trucks were crushing and flying over mounds of cars. Then followed the freestyle motorcycle riders with some pretty impressive tricks. The kids were pretty impressed by the jet car which shot fire as it circled the track leaving huge flames.  You could feel the heat from where we were in the stands.monster jam

Our favorite part of the night was the donut contest. It was pretty neat to see such large trucks spin around the arena like they were on ice! There was a short intermission that was perfect for a quick snack and potty break for the little ones. Right after was a robot alien fight with fire and fire works which got the boys all screaming in excitement. My daughter on the other hand was a little scared. To end the show they had Monster Truck free style where the trucks were able to show off a bit more. The judges kept score throughout the entire show as you can see in the photos.

Overall the entire night was a great time filled with many great memories. It was worth it to me just to see the smiles and excited looks on my daughters face!
The only complaint I heard was from the Grave Digger fans, they were experiencing some technical issues so they were not able to steal the show as they tend to do. 🙂

If you are thinking about attending Monster Jam I would definitely recommend it, even if you have all girls and think they will not enjoy the show. I beg to differ. My only piece of advice would be to have young children wear some type of ear protection, as it can get very loud in the area. My daughter is very sensitive to loud noise and was just fine with ear phones.

If anything I hope you take some time from your busy life this year to make some memories with your little ones before they are grown!
