This is basically the crack version of popcorn. It’s an addictive combinations of white chocolate, pretzels, popcorn, and m&m’s. I’ll explain the name in a moment. I make this all the time. I share the recipe even more often. I give it as a teacher or Christmas gift in a tin, it makes for a great party favor at a shower, and it’s a staple at nearly every gathering we host. It’s fun because you can make it in whatever colors if you want to match a color scheme or holiday.
- 2 bags of microwave popcorn
- ½ bag pretzel twists
- 1 bag M&M's
- 1 bag white chocolate or colored melts
- 1 Tablespoon oil
- Pop your bags of popcorn and pour into a VERY large bowl. You will want room to stir. Make sure you don't have any unpopped kernels in your popcorn.
- Add popcorn and M&M's to the bowl of popcorn.
- Melt your white chocolate or colored candy melts in a bowl with oil. DO NOT GET ANY WATER in this mixture or it will seize into a stiff mess. The oil will help you stir your melted white chocolate.
- Pour over the popcorn mixture and stir.
- Lay the popcorn on a large cookie sheet and chill until white chocolate hardens.
- Crack apart your popcorn crack and enjoy.
This is my cute Aunt Amy. She named and recreated this super secret recipe. By the way, she’s only 7 years older then me. When she married my uncle, it was just the beginning of a very close friendship. She has literally held my hand and kept me standing in my greatest moment of sorrow, she spoils me and my family rotten, and she can make me laugh every single time we talk or text. I hope you have a similar friend in your life, cuz I’m not sharing my Aunt Amy! 🙂
Ok, the promised story about how this recipe became affectionately called Mormon popcorn. Amy was visiting her sister in Utah and she had the most amazing popcorn. It was made by a Mormon lady and when Amy asked for the recipe, she wouldn’t give it up! She tried to get it out of other people and the secret recipe was not going to be shared. So Amy set out to recreate it. She did, and that’s why we call it “Mormon” popcorn.
