my new favorite sseko sandals have style and a story :: review

Sseko Deisgns logoLast week I was lucky enough to leave behind the cold Midwestern winter and travel to lovely Arizona. While I can’t say that the sun was shining every day and the temps were high, I can say that my footwear choices for the trip were perfect all thanks to my new Sseko (say-ko) sandals!

There’s a million reasons to love my Ssekos but I’ll just share a few starting with my super-duper-shortened version of  The Sseko Story.Sseko is based out of Uganda and provides opportunities for women in a part of the world where opportunities are few.  This includes helping talented young women get to university. Because I cannot do their entire story justice please go learn more here.

Sseko Sandals collageFirst of all, I had better explain how the Sseko sandals work.  They all start with a set of Sseko sandal bases and at least one set of straps (for example I started with the Brown Sandal).  Their online instructions for choosing the correct sandal size worked perfectly for me, so make sure you take a peek at that before ordering.

Now, the fun part.  Sseko sandal bases can be used with ANY set of Sseko sandal straps. Brown? Black? Teal? Grey?  They all work with the Sseko bases.  Plus, the possibilities for how you tie those straps are only limited by your imagination and what feels comfortable.

Sseko Designs Teal sandals collageSwitching from brown to teal sandals only took my novice tying skills about 5 minutes.  While I’m not quite advanced enough yet to attempt multiple straps, those that are can create two-toned sandals as well as more intricately designed ties (see tutorials for some of the options here).

By adding the Classic Strap Package to my Sseko sandal closet I was able to take these along as the only sandals for our entire 5 day trip!  I even wore them home on the plane and was entirely comfortable during a day that included about 14 hours of flights and traversing airports.

Sseko Harbor ToteSseko Designs also offers handcrafted totes for which they put the profits directly into their Sseko Scholarship Fund.  Look at this adorable Harbor Tote, wouldn’t it look fabulous on my arm this summer while I’m rocking out my new Sseko sandals?

Isn’t it adorable? I’m thinking that when I get a new laptop that will be the perfect tote for carrying it around. 🙂
