Did you know there was a National Have Fun at Work Day? Well, until yesterday I was none the wiser but after seeing that some people were turning this holiDAY into a week long celebration I decided that my fellow stay at home and work from home mothers needed to be able to jump into the celebration.
To get the fun started here are 5 ways to help yourself and your co-workers (AKA your children) have a little extra fun with Have Fun at Work Week!
1) Do Something Unexpected :: announce one morning that it is crazy dress up day where nothing is allowed to match, turn up the music during chore or homework time for an impromptu dance party, or surprise them with dessert for dinner!
2) Bake Together :: there is just something about helping me bake that always brings a smile to the faces of my little ones. It could be something fancy like a fully decorated layer cake, or as simple as break and bake cookies.
3) A Fun Project :: today I’m giving my girls a fun task to perform and I think they’ll be very excited. Do you know what a Rube Goldberg Machine is? Basically it is a bunch of simple machines that you put together to do a task in an elaborate manner. Thanks to my friends at General Mills I’ve got all the pieces necessary for my girls to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that will pour a bowl of cereal. It’s fun and learning all smushed together!
4) Get Crafty :: I’ve learned that by giving my girls an easy to clean area with crafting materials and a directive of “create whatever you want” I can get in some solid ‘me’ time to enjoy a cup of coffee, paint my nails, or read a magazine. Fun for everyone!!!
5) Game Marathon :: line up the family board games and start playing each game before moving onto the next. If you have kids past the “small parts not intended for children under 3” stage I recommend card games like Old Maid, Go Fish, and Crazy 8’s as well as dice games like Yahtzee! or Tenzi.
I hope you found some fun suggestions to help you celebrate Have Fun at Work Week at home and I’d love to hear what ways you like to make things more fun at home for your family.

February 9, 2015 at 12:37 amI worked at a place where all gifts had to be hand made. That means Christmas also. I believe it means more to most people having something that took some thought and time, and love. Make some Valentine’s Day Treats for your co-workers. Hubby did that for us one year, three years later the girls still talk about it!
