NM_trilogy_openbox_peas_HRSome of you may remember NurturMe from Jaime’s review of it a few months back (original review here).  If you didn’t see Jaime’s review, NurturMe is a certified-organic baby food made from nutrient-rich, quick-dried fruits and vegetables.

NurturMe baby foods have no added salt, sugars, colors or preservatives and are gluten-free.  They also use recyclable packaging for their four great flavors: Plump Peas, Scrumptious Squash, Crisp Apples and Hearty Sweet Potatoes.  If you’d like to learn more about the NurturMe story check out the video of co-founders Lauren McCullough and Caroline Freedman from NurturMe’s homepage.

NM_trilogy_openbox_apple_HRWe recently got to try NurturMe here at my house not as baby food, but as a way to sneak add in fruits & veggies to foods for older kids.  Our first try at this was with spaghetti dinner.  I mixed one package of Plump Peas with 1/2 cup of milk and then poured the mixture over cooked pasta and thoroughly coated all the noodles.  I served the spaghetti as I normally would and nobody was the wiser.

The Crisp Apples is tasty when mixed in with a cup of yogurt and I think it’d made a great add in to the instant oatmeal my girls enjoy.  NurturMe recommends trying the Scrumptious Squash with mac & cheese and the Hearty Sweet Potatoes in pancakes (I’m trying that one next time we make pancakes).

NM_trilogy_openbox_swpotato_HRIf your kids are anything like mine it sometimes can be difficult to get them to eat foods that are good for them and I love that NurturMe’s quick-dried fruits and vegetables are an easy way to add nutrition to foods they already love. I’ve been brainstorming ways to use these to add in more nutrition and good stuff to some other things I make, like…

  • extra Plump Peas in homemade Chicken Pot Pies
  •  Scrumptious Squash or Crisp Apple in muffins
  • Crisp Apple in yogurt smoothies
  • Hearty Sweet Potato, Crisp Apple or Scrumptious Squash in homemade waffles (add some cinnamon and WOW!)

Can you think of any other great ways to add NurturMe’s quick-dried baby food into your picky eater’s diet?
