I love creating holiday traditions with my kids. The best part is that our holiday “traditions” tend to morph and change as our family changes and I’m all about knowing my “tradition” limits as a mom. (The whole Elf on a Shelf thing does not happen in this house. I don’t have the stamina to keep up with a mischievous and moving elf. God bless you who do!)
So here is a tradition that my kids find pretty fun right now — Portable North Pole!

You can either go with the free version and make a basic, but still personalized, video or purchase the premium version that has even more fun (and can be downloaded).
Creating the video is pretty easy. Just enter in some information, decide whether your child has been nice or naughty (yikes!) and add some photos. Because my 8 year old is pretty clever, I try to use photos she may have not seen on my computer before. The best part is that you can select a few different video options in the premium version. That means that if you have more than one kid, you’re not creating the very same video for all of them. For example, in Abbi’s video, Santa starts out in the reindeer barn and in Zoe’s video he’ll be fixing his sleigh.

So, as we get closer to Christmas and as my kids need a little reminder that the big guy is still watching and his list can be changed at any time, we’ll sit down together and they’ll each get to watch their videos. And I’ll watch them as they watch the videos ever so intently and then giggle as Santa talks right to them! And then, on Christmas Eve, we’ll surprise them with a special voice mail just for them from Santa!
