When you combine an animated kids cartoon, with animals and singing you’re sure to have a hit with my children. Once I saw that The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittle from Phase 4 Films had all these elements it was no surprise to me that our first viewing was immediately followed by an encore show.
The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittle is about John Dolittle, the nephew of Dr. Dolittle. Young John wants to be just like his Uncle and prove that he is just as capable with animals, especially his favorite pet dog. Throughout the story John learns the value of true friendship.
John Dolittle loves animals just like his uncle, Doctor Dolittle. When John is warned that animals are in danger, he jumps into his uncle’s submarine to help. When he arrives at Dolittle Island, he learns that it has been taken over by Ramsey the Ram and his army of gorillas. With a little help from some new friends, John comes to the rescue and saves the island.
This movie was well received by my preschooler with its G rating, I can easily see this movie becoming a favorite with young elementary aged children as well. Beware if you have sensitive kids, Ramsey the Ram and his minions were a little intimidating the first viewing, but I quickly let my 4-year-old know that it was okay and she immediately got over her fear.
